Kenya has launched the National Integration of ICT Learning in Junior Schools, a major initiative aimed at equipping learners with the digital skills needed to thrive in an increasingly AI-driven economy.
Implemented under the Kenya Digital Economy Acceleration Project (KDEAP) with support from the World Bank, the programme will provide 10,382 public junior secondary schools with interactive smart boards and teacher laptops to strengthen the Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum. The launch also featured a live synchronised lesson connecting schools across five counties, demonstrating how technology can expand access to quality education regardless of location.
The initiative complements Kenya’s broader Digital Superhighway Programme, which has already seen more than 37,000 kilometres of fibre optic infrastructure deployed. According to the government, the expanding broadband network will support connected schools, digital public services, innovation, cybersecurity and the development of an AI-ready workforce.
The rollout marks another milestone in Kenya’s digital transformation journey as the country continues investing in technology-enabled education and preparing the next generation for the future digital economy.
