The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has completed specialised training for its technical officers on the operation and utilisation of its Spectrum Monitoring Sub-System (SMS), as the regulator strengthens its technical capacity for spectrum management.
The training was conducted under the maintenance contract for the Authority’s Spectrum Monitoring Sub-System across its fixed and mobile monitoring stations. The contract was awarded to Rohde & Schwarz GmbH & Co. KG (R&S) in 2025.
According to the CA, the programme was designed to enhance officers’ ability to operate and utilise the Radio Monitoring System for spectrum monitoring, measurement and analysis.
The training also focused on detecting and resolving radio-frequency interference and improving the technical team’s use of direction-finding capabilities.
The Authority said the capacity-building initiative has equipped its technical officers with additional skills to support more efficient spectrum management and promote the effective use of Kenya’s radio-frequency resources.
The training comes as regulators face increasingly complex radio-frequency environments driven by the continued growth of wireless communications and demand for spectrum.
