M-KOPA has marked its 15th anniversary after reaching 10 million customers since its founding in 2011, reporting record revenue of $600 million for the 2025 financial year.
The revenue figure represents a 45% increase from 2024, while three million new customers joined the company over the past 12 months across Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda and South Africa.
M-KOPA has also expanded its workforce, adding approximately 200 full-time employees, representing a 9% increase in headcount, alongside more than 5,000 new sales agents. The company now employs over 2,500 people and has created income opportunities for nearly 50,000 sales agents.
According to Chief Financial Officer Faraimose Kutadzaushe, 2025 was a record year for customer and revenue growth. The company currently onboards approximately 10,000 customers daily and processes micropayments at a rate of 23 transactions per second.
Initially focused on solar financing, M-KOPA expanded into smartphone financing in 2020 and has since diversified into digital loans and electric mobility. In Kenya, it has financed more than 10,000 electric motorcycles and three-wheelers.
The company has also increased investment in smartphone manufacturing, including technology acquisitions and the opening of what it describes as Africa’s largest smartphone assembly factory in Kenya. Its latest X4 smartphone series launched in October 2026.
M-KOPA reports a five-year compound annual growth rate of 50%, reflecting its expansion across financial services and asset financing markets in Africa.
