Toyota Launches bZ4X, Expanding Kenya’s Electric Vehicle Future

Kenya’s electric mobility journey has reached a major milestone with the launch of Toyota’s first fully electric vehicle in the country, the bZ4X, through CFAO Mobility Kenya. Unveiled at the CFAO Mobility Toyota Showroom along Uhuru Highway, the launch marks Toyota’s official entry into Kenya’s rapidly growing electric vehicle market after more than six decades of offering petrol and diesel-powered vehicles. The introduction of the bZ4X signals a significant step forward in the country’s transition toward cleaner and more sustainable transportation solutions.

The Toyota bZ4X, which stands for “Beyond Zero 4-Wheel Crossover,” combines performance, innovation, and sustainability in a single package. With a driving range of up to 516 kilometers on a full charge and the ability to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.1 seconds, the vehicle demonstrates that electric mobility can deliver both efficiency and performance. Equipped with all-wheel drive, X-Mode traction control, and impressive ground clearance, the bZ4X is designed to confidently handle both urban roads and challenging terrains, making it well-suited to Kenya’s diverse driving conditions.

Charging convenience and reliability remain key considerations for EV adoption, and Toyota has addressed this through advanced charging capabilities and long-term battery support. The vehicle supports 150kW DC fast charging, allowing the battery to recharge from 10% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes. In addition, the battery is backed by an 8-year or 120,000-kilometer warranty, reinforcing confidence in the long-term durability and practicality of electric vehicle ownership. CFAO Mobility Kenya will further support customers through its nationwide network of 43 branches and service centers, staffed by technicians trained specifically in EV maintenance and repairs.

Built on Toyota’s dedicated e-TNGA electric vehicle platform, the bZ4X incorporates advanced engineering designed to optimize stability, efficiency, and driving comfort. The vehicle features Toyota’s latest safety technologies, including the Toyota Safety Sense package, which offers pre-collision alerts, lane trace assistance, and safe exit assist to enhance driver and passenger protection. Inside, the spacious “Family Lounge” cabin design delivers comfort and convenience for all occupants, while the aerodynamic exterior contributes to improved energy efficiency and overall performance.

The launch comes at a time when Kenya’s electric vehicle ecosystem is experiencing significant growth, with EV registrations surpassing 35,000 by 2025. As government policies, infrastructure investments, and consumer interest continue to support the transition to cleaner transportation, the introduction of the Toyota bZ4X strengthens the country’s EV landscape and provides consumers with another premium electric mobility option. Retailing at KES 11 million inclusive of VAT, the bZ4X represents Toyota’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and the future of mobility in Kenya.
