Safaricom PLC has introduced nine new mobile number prefixes in Kenya, expanding the pool of numbers available to new customers as demand for mobile services continues to grow.
The new prefixes — 0118, 0119, 0140, 0141, 0142, 0143, 0180, 0181 and 0182 — became available on August 10, 2026, through Safaricom Shops and authorised dealers across the country.
Customers receiving numbers within the new ranges will remain on the Safaricom network and continue accessing the operator’s existing mobile services.
Safaricom currently reports 57.9 million mobile subscriptions and a 68.9% share of Kenya’s mobile market, highlighting the continued demand for additional numbering capacity.
The expansion comes alongside wider investment in network capacity and digital services. Safaricom plans to deploy 300 additional network sites following an initial rollout of 200, bringing the latest expansion programme to 500 sites.
The company has also increased selected data bundles, including its KSh20 package, which now provides 250MB compared with the previous 100MB at the same price.
The new prefixes expand the availability of mobile numbers rather than increasing network coverage or data traffic capacity. Meanwhile, mobile broadband users consumed more than 800 million GB of data during the first quarter of 2026, representing a 6% increase from the previous quarter.
Average monthly data consumption stood at 15.1GB per mobile broadband subscription, while 5G subscribers recorded average monthly usage of 53.5GB.
