Safaricom Plc has appointed two senior Vodacom Group executives, Mariam Cassim and Matimba Mbungela, as Non-Executive Directors, effective 13 August 2026.
The appointments are subject to regulatory approval and come alongside the resignation of James Ludlow and Dr. (Eng.) John Kipngetich Mosonik from the Safaricom board on the same date.
Cassim currently serves as Chief Executive Officer, Fintech at Vodacom Group, bringing experience in corporate finance, deal structuring and business development. She has been with the group since 2017 and is a Chartered Accountant with an MBA from the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business.
Mbungela has served as Vodacom Group’s Chief Officer, Human Resources, since 2014. His previous roles include senior human resources positions within Vodacom and Vodafone, as well as leadership roles at BMW South Africa and Unilever.
He also serves as a Non-Executive Director on the boards of Vodacom Tanzania, Vodacom Mozambique and Vodacom Lesotho.
The board changes strengthen Safaricom’s leadership with additional experience spanning fintech, corporate finance, human resources and telecommunications as the company continues to operate within the wider Vodacom Group ecosystem.
