Kenya is seeking to deepen cooperation with the United States on digital economy development, with discussions focusing on artificial intelligence, digital skills and jobs, cybersecurity, data governance, cross-border data flows and investment.
The discussions took place during a meeting chaired by ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo, who received a delegation from the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Kenya led by Chief Executive Officer Paul Muthaura.
The engagement focused on strengthening Kenya-US collaboration as Kenya seeks to position itself as a leading regional digital hub and expand the contribution of technology to economic growth.
Kabogo emphasised the need to ensure that investments in digital skills translate into tangible employment opportunities for young people. He called for closer collaboration with American technology companies to align training programmes with industry demand and establish clearer pathways from training to certification, employment and entrepreneurship.
The discussions also highlighted the growing importance of artificial intelligence and the need to develop the skills and frameworks required to support its responsible adoption across Kenya’s economy.
Cybersecurity and data governance were also identified as key areas for cooperation as organisations and public institutions increasingly rely on digital systems and data-driven technologies.
Cross-border data flows and investment were further discussed as important enablers of Kenya’s digital economy. Strengthening these areas could support technology investment, digital trade and the growth of businesses operating across international markets.
Kabogo said the upcoming AmCham Summit in September would provide an opportunity to translate the discussions into concrete partnerships and commitments.
The engagement reflects Kenya’s broader efforts to strengthen international partnerships around technology, skills development and digital infrastructure while ensuring that the growth of the digital economy creates practical opportunities for young people and businesses.
