Kenya’s ICT Authority is expanding the second phase of the Digital Literacy Programme (DLP) in Nyeri County, with all 377 public junior schools in the county set to receive interactive smart boards and teacher laptops. The latest rollout took place at Nyaribo Junior School as part of the government’s wider push to integrate technology into education.
The programme is being implemented by the ICT Authority under the Kenya Digital Economy Acceleration Project (KDEAP), with support from the World Bank. The rollout is designed to strengthen technology-enabled learning and expand digital skills among learners and teachers.
More than 62,000 teachers across Kenya have already been trained to integrate digital technology into classroom teaching. During the Nyeri rollout, learners also demonstrated how interactive smart boards can be used in classroom learning.
The programme builds on Kenya’s wider efforts to integrate technology into public education. The ICT Authority has said DLP Phase II is deploying teacher laptops and interactive smart boards to 10,382 public junior schools across all 47 counties, alongside teacher training and curriculum digitisation.
The expansion in Nyeri adds another step towards increasing access to digital learning tools and preparing learners for an increasingly technology-driven economy.
