Former Absa Bank Kenya CEO Abdi Mohamed has been appointed CEO of I&M Bank Ltd, effective 5 October 2026, following the completion of all regulatory approvals.
Mohamed brings more than 30 years of banking experience to the role. He previously served as CEO of Absa Bank Kenya and Absa Bank Tanzania, in addition to holding senior banking positions in Kenya and Zambia.
His appointment completes a leadership transition first announced in June. Mohamed succeeds Kihara Maina, who served as interim CEO while continuing in his role as I&M Group Regional CEO.
I&M Bank said Mohamed will lead the institution through its next phase of growth, drawing on his experience across Kenya and the wider regional financial services sector.
The appointment adds a seasoned banking executive to I&M Bank’s leadership as the lender continues to pursue growth across its markets.
