Bolt has recognised its top-performing drivers in Nairobi and Mombasa for their commitment to customer service, rewarding them with fuel and vehicle service vouchers, tyres and other incentives during Customer Service Week.
The recognition ceremony, held at Bolt’s Nairobi Driver Engagement Centre, brought together drivers who have been active on the ride-hailing platform for at least six months. The awards covered both car drivers and boda boda riders, highlighting their contribution to everyday transport services across the two cities.
Arthur Gacharia, Senior Operations Manager at Bolt, said drivers play an important role in shaping customer experiences, as they are often the first and last point of contact during a ride. He added that the initiative recognises the effort and responsibility involved in providing reliable services.
The awards formed part of a week of driver engagement activities, which also included breakfast, T-shirts and reflector vests for drivers visiting the centre.
Bolt’s recognition initiative comes amid challenges facing Kenya’s ride-hailing industry, including rising operating costs, road safety concerns, changing customer expectations and regulatory developments.
The company has also pursued road safety initiatives in partnership with the Kenya Red Cross, training 75 boda boda riders in first aid and emergency response over the past year. The programme is being monitored to assess its impact and identify opportunities for expansion.
In addition, Bolt has partnered with M-KOPA to help drivers transition to electric motorcycles through financing arrangements designed to lower upfront costs and reduce running and maintenance expenses compared with petrol-powered bikes. Bolt says seven in ten electric vehicles operating on its Kenyan platform are currently electric.
Samson Ouma, one of the recognised drivers, said the awards acknowledged drivers’ commitment to maintaining good ratings and improving passenger experiences. He also thanked passengers for their continued trust in the platform.
