Safaricom Group CEO Peter Ndegwa has been named a champion of the Digital Transformation Pathway under the Global Africa Business Initiative (GABI), as the initiative moves towards implementing sector-focused action across Africa.
The Action Pathways were launched during the 2025 Global Africa Business Initiative as year-round platforms for collaboration, investment and implementation around Africa’s key development priorities.
At GABI 2026, the initiative announced sector champions who will support efforts to accelerate delivery and mobilise action across the public and private sectors.
Ndegwa will champion the Digital Transformation Pathway alongside Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani. The pathway will focus on expanding digital infrastructure, modernising public services, developing future-ready digital skills and strengthening support for small and medium-sized enterprises.
The pathway will also address responsible artificial intelligence and data governance as African economies continue to expand their digital transformation programmes.
A separate Health Pathway has also been established, led by Roche Pharma International Area Head for Africa Maturin Tchoumi and AUDA-NEPAD CEO Nardos Bekele-Thomas.
The Health Pathway will focus on digital health innovation, resilient pharmaceutical supply chains, increased healthcare investment and health workforce development.
Safaricom said the Action Pathways mark a shift from dialogue towards implementation by bringing together business leaders, governments and innovators to advance Africa’s inclusive growth and sustainable development priorities.
