Kenya’s State Department of ICT and Digital Economy has called on ICT leaders across government to play a stronger strategic role in accelerating the country’s digital transformation, highlighting leadership, continuous learning and effective communication as key pillars for delivering better public services.
Speaking during a leadership forum for ICT Directors from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) at the Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (Kenya-AIST) in Konza Technopolis, Principal Secretary for ICT and Digital Economy John Kipchumba Tanui said ICT professionals remain central to improving government efficiency, strengthening public service delivery and supporting Kenya’s long-term economic growth.
The forum brought together Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications Steve Isaboke, Principal Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development Dr. Jane Kere Imbunya, Farida Karoney from the Executive Office of the President – Communication, and ICT Directors from government institutions to discuss the next phase of Kenya’s digital transformation agenda.
Addressing participants, Tanui outlined three priorities for government ICT leaders. He urged them to embrace their strategic leadership role in implementing digital transformation initiatives, continuously upgrade their skills to keep pace with rapidly evolving technologies, and communicate the impact of ICT projects more effectively to demonstrate the value technology brings to citizens.
He noted that strengthening ICT leadership across ministries reflects the growing importance of technology in achieving Kenya’s Digital Superhighway vision and broader digital economy ambitions.
Tanui also encouraged ICT Directors to actively contribute to policymaking, mentorship and innovation while ensuring digital solutions translate into more efficient, citizen-centred government services.
The leadership forum reinforces Kenya’s commitment to building a digitally enabled public sector, where strong technology leadership, innovation and collaboration continue to drive national development and economic growth.
