Nairobi-based startup Sustainable Structures has joined FasterCapital’s EquityPilot programme to accelerate the commercialisation of its modular, fire-resistant kiosks, marking an important step toward modernising Africa’s informal retail infrastructure.
The startup is developing standardised kiosks assembled from modular components to replace the temporary structures widely used by micro-entrepreneurs across African cities. Designed for mobility, durability, fire resistance and sustainability, the kiosks aim to provide safer, longer-lasting and more visually appealing business spaces while supporting scalable urban commerce.
Through FasterCapital’s EquityPilot programme, Sustainable Structures will receive support in transforming its prototype into a production-ready product. Over the next 30 to 60 days, the programme will focus on finalising industrial component designs, supplier specifications, factory planning, licensing requirements, staffing strategies and pilot manufacturing processes.
Led by CEO Samuel Ngugi, CTO Josephat S. Wang’oma and Sales and Marketing Lead Zackary Ndungu, the company is targeting a segment of Africa’s informal economy that has historically lacked standardised infrastructure. By introducing manufactured kiosks designed for repeatable production, Sustainable Structures aims to improve safety, sustainability and operational efficiency for urban vendors.
Over the next 90 days, the company plans to complete its pilot production strategy, establish manufacturing facilities, build supplier partnerships and validate market demand ahead of its first production run. The milestone reflects growing investor and ecosystem interest in African startups developing practical solutions for urban infrastructure and small business growth.
