Kenya has broken ground for the Kikuyu Center of Excellence Digital Hub in Kiambu County as the government advances its plan to establish 100 similar digital hubs across all 47 counties.
The groundbreaking ceremony was officiated by Kikuyu MP and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, with the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy represented by Assistant Director of ICT Geoffrey Omwenga on behalf of Principal Secretary John Tanui.
The facility is designed as a self-sustaining digital ecosystem supporting digital skills development, innovation, creative industries and entrepreneurship, while connecting young people and local businesses to opportunities in the global digital economy.
Once completed, the hub will feature music and film production studios, Jitume digital skills centres, Kazi hubs, eCitizen service points, technology and creative hubs, modern offices, a server room and public Wi-Fi zones. The facility will also include a food court and outdoor workspaces.
The government says the project will help expand access to technology and digital opportunities beyond Nairobi while strengthening grassroots participation in Kenya’s digital economy.
