Eric Muriuki has transitioned from NCBA Group, where he led the neobank LOOP DFS, to a new role at Absa Group as Managing Executive, Pan African Growth Strategy, Platforms & Digital Ventures.
Muriuki brings extensive experience in Kenya’s digital financial services sector, having played roles in the development of several major mobile money and digital lending initiatives.
In 2007, he was involved in designing the regulatory settlement model for M-PESA, including the trust-account architecture that enabled Safaricom to issue electronic value with regulatory approval.
In 2012, Muriuki spearheaded the development of M-Shwari, a mobile savings and micro-credit platform conceived during his MBA thesis. The service was designed to provide financial services without traditional physical collateral and has since expanded across multiple markets.
He was also a co-creator of Fuliza in 2019, Kenya’s mobile overdraft facility that enables customers to complete transactions when their account balance is insufficient.
Before joining Absa, Muriuki led LOOP DFS at NCBA, overseeing the digital banking platform’s expansion across regional markets.
His appointment at Absa adds another experienced digital finance executive to the group as it continues to expand its platforms, digital ventures and Pan-African growth strategy.
