Kenya has launched the eLearning and Information Technology Institute (eLITI) under the Kenya School of Government (KSG), expanding efforts to strengthen digital learning, information and communications technology (ICT) skills, emerging technology adoption and research across the public sector.
The launch coincided with the graduation of 1,239 public officers who completed the UNESCO–Oxford Programme on Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation in Government. The programme aims to strengthen public-sector capacity to understand and apply digital technologies in government operations.
The new institute builds on the Kenya Development Learning Centre, established in 2003, which later evolved into the eLearning and Development Institute (eLDI). Its new identity brings together digital learning and ICT training, emerging technologies, research and advisory services, and partnerships under one institutional framework.
During the launch, KSG showcased technology applications, including virtual reality simulations, artificial intelligence applications and AI agents developed by the institute for deployment through Konza Technopolis, Kenya’s technology and innovation hub.
The institute also plans to extend practical digital skills training to communities through initiatives such as the KSG Under the Tree Series. The programme is intended to bring learning opportunities closer to people at the grassroots level, widening access to technology-related education beyond formal training environments.
The establishment of eLITI reflects KSG’s efforts to adapt public-sector training to changing technological needs. By combining digital learning, ICT training and research, the institute aims to help public officers develop the skills required to work with emerging technologies and support digital transformation across government.
The initiative also aligns with wider efforts to build public-sector capacity in artificial intelligence and digital services, while strengthening access to technology education and supporting innovation within Kenya’s public institutions.
