NCBA Bank customers can now purchase Kenya Power prepaid electricity tokens and pay postpaid electricity bills directly from their bank accounts through the utility’s*977# USSD service.
NCBA says it is the first bank in Kenya to offer customers this payment option, allowing account holders to settle electricity bills without first transferring money to a mobile wallet or using a separate payment channel.
To access the service, customers dial *977#, follow the prompts and select NCBA as their payment option.
Dennis Njau, Group Director for Retail Banking at NCBA Group, said the integration reflects the bank’s focus on making banking services more convenient for customers.
The service is intended to simplify routine electricity payments for households and businesses as demand grows for faster and more accessible digital payment options.
Electricity tokens are commonly purchased through M-PESA in Kenya. The integration provides NCBA customers with another way to pay for electricity directly from their bank accounts.
The launch comes after South Africa’s Nedbank completed its acquisition of a 66 per cent stake in NCBA, making the Kenyan lender a subsidiary.
