Kenya’s Communications Authority (CA) is targeting to equip 120,000 Kenyans across 19 counties with digital skills over the next three years as part of efforts to bridge the country’s digital divide.
The initiative is being implemented through the Authority’s Universal Service Fund (USF) under its Digital Skilling Project, with a focus on communities in unserved and underserved areas.
The programme is designed to complement connectivity efforts by ensuring that people have the skills needed to confidently and meaningfully participate in Kenya’s growing digital economy.
The CA has emphasized that internet connectivity alone is not enough to close the digital divide. Users also need the knowledge and skills to navigate digital technologies confidently, safely, and sustainably.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ workshop on digital skilling, Director of the Universal Service Fund, Eng. Dennis Chepkwony, highlighted the importance of collaboration in expanding the programme’s reach to communities with limited digital access.
The initiative supports the government’s digital skills objectives under the Kenya National Digital Master Plan 2022–2032 and reflects the CA’s broader vision of achieving digital access for all by combining connectivity with the skills required to benefit from digital services and opportunities.
